Emerald Isle Kitchen & Bath is a small family owned business based out of Nappanee,
a small town in northern Indiana which has a rich heritage surrounding the kitchen
manufacturing business. Dick Adams has been in the business of carpentry on and off
since graduating from high school and attending Ivy Tech for a year before pursuing
a career in the RV industry. While working at Newmar Corporation, he then
discovered the art of making solid surface countertops. Purchasing unused pieces of
solid surface, he was able to make a small business with his two children building
solid-surface cutting boards and selling them at local arts and crafts festivals such
as the Amish Acres Arts and Crafts Festival and the Plymouth Blueberry Festival. His
experiences in working with the material lead him to install several countertops for
close family members. Jeff Toumey began working in carpentry and construction after
graduating from high school. He worked several years for Popcorn Construction out of
Nappanee and built his own home. Both Dick and Jeff decided it would be beneficial
for both of them to begin a part-time business making kitchens, bathroom lavatories,
and installing solid-surface countertops.
In selecting a type of wood to use in constructing your cabinets, there is no wrong
answer. We offer an unlimited selection of different types of woods; all ranging
from cherry, oak, to maple, whatever is your preference.
When it comes to the actual construction of your cabinets, while most companies try
and make the outer appearance seem expensive, in reality most are poorly constructed
and easily damaged over the years. At Emerald Isle, this is not the case. Our cabinet
sides and bottoms are made of 3/4 laminated plywood. The fronts are made of 3/4 solid
wood and the inside of each cabinet is composed of real wood left natural to help
brighten the inside. Most kitchen companies will use paper overlays that look like
wood for the inside of cabinets which eventually warp, tear, or need replaced over
time. Emerald Isle strives to compose a custom kitchen that is durable, functional,
and will last a lifetime.
The material we use for all of our countertops is a 100% Acrylic solid-surface
material known as Hanex. The reason we prefer this material over other varieties of
countertop materials is for its durability, practicality, and its NSF 51
certification for food preparation.
